Can I take this medicine with this another one?
Let’s see, here your doctor has had to assess all the possible interactions between your medications, and looking at your medical history s/he knows perfectly what you can and what you cannot take. However, if you have questions (because your doctor is human, not a robot), ask us what concerns you.
Can you break a pill or crush it?
Not generally. The pharmaceutical form or format of a medicine influences its therapeutic activity. In principle, all medicines must be taken without manipulating them.
When a pill has a slot in the middle, it does not mean that it can be split. When you break a pill, the two halves are not exactly the same, and therefore, you do not take the correct amount of the active ingredient, which can lead to serious danger.
If what you want is to reduce the dose, ask us, because possibly that product is in smaller doses, or we can inform you about other pharmaceutical forms that can be adapted to the dose you need.
Nor should pills be crushed or capsules opened to take only the content. That cover has a function and if you eliminate it, you will be reducing the effectiveness of the product.
Can a patch be cut?
No, a patch must not be cut, bent or split. The drug in the patch could be released suddenly resulting in an overdose, or else it could leak out of the patch before being absorbed through the skin and its effect would be reduced. Also, an allergic reaction could occur when the drug comes into contact with the skin.
I have forgotten to take a pill, what do I do?
It depends on the drug. Before doing anything, read the prospectus carefully. AND NEVER DOUBLE THE DOSE, that is, if there is no total assurance that you have not taken it, do not take it.
In the case of a special medication, call us or come see us. It is much better that way.
Do I have to keep the syrup in the refrigerator?
Normally they come prepared to be kept at room temperature (as long as that temperature is not more than 30 ºC, of course). Yes, it’s true that there are some syrups that have to be refrigerated, but in those cases, it is indicated on the bottle and on the package insert. If you have any questions, just ask us.
How long can I use eye drops that have been opened?
Well, 4 weeks is normal, but now there are quite a few exceptions and they can last 3 or even 6 months. As always, read the leaflet or look at the box because there it is clearly indicated.
How long can an ointment that has been opened be used?
About 6-12 months. In the ointment container of the ointment it will be clearly indicated.
The side effects of a medication
Let’s see, they are variable, and they depend on each one, on the dose, on our body, on whether we are on another medication or not … on many things. And the frequency of appearance is small; if not, the drug would not be on the market. But if when you take a medication you notice something or you are not feeling well, go to us or your doctor, and we will help you.

And you can help us by reporting your case by filling out the yellow card in pharmacovigilance. This card is a form in which you have to write the minimum data necessary to assess whether the side-effects you have suffered may be due to the medicine you have taken.
Do I take this medication with or without food?
Here it varies a lot. It may be indicated on the leaflet, but not always. So, the most prudent thing is that you consult us when in doubt.
